Why Add A Steel Bumper To Your Mercedes Sprinter Van

Like people in the 1980s would say, Sprinter vans are the Cadillac of vans. Or like people today would say, Sprinter vans are the Mercedes-Benzes of vans. That’s literally true.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans have it all: comfort, reliability, power, and luxury. Yet, Sprinter vans are sorely lacking in one area: the bumpers. Sprinters come with basic plastic or aluminum bumpers that don’t provide much protection.

If you have a Sprinter, or a fleet of Sprinters, it’s a good idea to install an aftermarket steel bumper on your van(s).

1. A Steel Bumper Will Make Your Sprinter More Useful

A well-built steel bumper will enhance your Sprinter’s appearance. Even more importantly, it will maximize your Sprinter’s utility. Depending on the type of steel bumper you get, you can do more things with your Sprinter. For example, you can drive on rougher terrain without worrying about damaging the front of your van. Several of our Sprinter bumpers have clevis mounts for recovery, and some also allow additional lighting to be easily added.

2. A Steel Bumper Will Extend Your Sprinter’s Life

The OEM Sprinter bumper is pretty thin and weak. That’s a problem because the purpose of a bumper is to protect your vehicle in the event of a impact. Steel bumpers can absorb a lot more impact than an OEM bumper can. In fact, a quality steel bumper is quite hard to puncture or bend.

So if you have a quality steel bumper on your Sprinter, your van is well protected. Whether you bump into a fence post or strike an animal at a high speed, there will likely be no measurable impact on your bumper. That’s a big deal because your OEM bumper would likely get all crumpled up in the latter situation.

Even if your steel bumper gets dented or bent, its strength still isn’t compromised. A steel bumper can still be as strong as it was before. If your OEM bumper gets dented or cracked, you have to worry about it falling off. It’s because the structural integrity of the mounting points are compromised.

3. You’ll Save Money In The Long Run

A steel bumper can be a big investment, but it’ll pay off in the long run. It provides a lot more protection than an OEM bumper does. That means there’s a much less risk of damage to your van. With a steel bumper on your Sprinter, you’ll minimize the risk of expensive body repairs.
